The love of money ...

DAILY REFLECTION

28 March 2025

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬ ‭

The devastating consequences of “the love of money” can ripple through lives, causing profound pain and suffering. It not only pierces the hearts of individuals but can shatter families, leaving them with lingering grief.

In 2021, a 51-year-old Malaysian man, burdened by immense gambling debt, committed an unthinkable act by taking his wife’s life, driven by the hope of claiming her EPF savings. His story, as reported by China Press, reveals the dangerous grip of greed - a force that can consume one's thoughts and actions, ignoring moral and spiritual guidance. His obsession led him down a path of destruction, ultimately landing him in prison for 30 years, left to grapple with regret and sorrow. This chilling reminder underscores how the love of money can drive people into despair and darkness, sacrificing what truly matters in pursuit of material wealth.

1 Timothy 6:10 urges believers to examine their hearts, reflect on their priorities, and resist the allure of placing material possessions above moral values and faith. True fulfillment lies not in wealth, but in a sincere, committed relationship with God - a source of peace that no riches can provide.

"Too many people spend money they earned to buy things they don't want to impress people that they don't like."
