“And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.”
Matthew 6:16
True fasting should be a private act of devotion, a time for seeking God's presence and guidance, not on the outward appearance of piety.

Tan Chee Khoon was a prominent Malaysian politician, physician, and social activist. He is often remembered as "Mr. Opposition" for his outspoken views and unwavering commitment to principles. He was a vocal advocate for social justice, multiracialism, and a secular Malaysia. He never sought personal gain or recognition, focusing instead on genuine service by providing free medical treatment to the poor.
He consistently spoke out against injustice, corruption, and those who sought to exploit others for personal gain. He passed away on 14 Oct 1996 at age 77. He was a man of action, driven by a deep sense of social justice and a desire to make a positive impact on the society.
Matthew 6:16 reminds us that true faith is not about outward displays or seeking recognition. It's about a genuine connection with God, a commitment to living a life of integrity and service, and a willingness to let our actions speak louder than words.
