Don't Give Up!

DAILY REFLECTION - Dr Tan Tek Seng

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,"

Psalm 46:1

Where there seems to be no way, God will make a way for those who believe and trust in Him.

Poon Lim, a Chinese sailor, was the sole survivor of the 54 people on board the British cargo ship SS Ben Lomond that was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine in the South Atlantic during World War II. He endured 133 days at sea, facing hunger, thirst, storms, and the constant threat of sharks. Despite facing insurmountable odds, he was able to draw strength from God and found ways to adapt and survive. His faith in God provided him with a sense of spiritual refuge, a place of peace and comfort in the midst of his ordeal. It was the manifestation of God's presence in his life, guiding him and providing him with the strength to persevere. He was eventually rescued by Brazilian fishermen. His survival is a powerful testament to the enduring power of hope and the strength that can only be found in God.

Psalm 46:1 serves as a reminder that, regardless of the challenges one may face, there is a refuge and strength available to all who seek Him, offering comfort and assistance in troubled times. It encourages a deep reliance on faith and a trusting relationship with God.

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”
